Ms. Molly has a story. This gorgeous little girl was brought into a kill shelter in NC as an emaciated stray with severe injuries. DPR pulled her from the shelter and immediately took her to our vet where we found out she had broken ribs, a fractured sternum and was blind. Due to the nature of her injures and that there were no external scrapes or cuts that would normally be seen with car accidents or animal attacks, our vet thinks that somebody kicked her. We were heartbroken to hear this. We truly cannot wrap our minds around cruelty to any animal, let alone a sweet friendly little kitten. But we have been determined to show Ms. Molly that not all humans are bad, and she in turn has shown a remarkable spirit of forgiveness and healing.
You can see on the x rays attached that her ribs were separated into a wishbone shape, providing no protection to her heart - you could actually see her heart beating right up against her skin. Our vet prescribed cage rest with regular check ups and x rays to see how her healing was progressing and determine whether or not she'd need to have surgery. She ended up healing miraculously well and did not require surgery! Her eyesight slowly started returning as well. She is most likely blind in one eye, but has some vision in the other - she can certainly get around just fine and does not bump into anything. We are hoping that her eyesight will continue to improve.  After many months of cage rest and healing, our vet has finally cleared her for adoption!
She is the absolute sweetest girl with the most gentle and loving personality. She loves to be pet and is very affectionate. She gets along great with all the kittens and adult cats she is being fostered with. There is not a mean bone in this girl's body. We have fallen in love with Ms. Molly, and after all she's been through she sure deserves a home where she will be loved and spoiled forever!

She is spayed, tested negative for FeLv/FIV/HW, up to date on all vaccinations and litter box trained. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out a "Cat Adoption

This website is updated daily.  If the animal you are interested in adopting is listed as "available for adoption", that means the animal is still in DPR's care.

*Please note - due to COVID-19, we will not be able to do on-site meet and greets. Adoptive families can speak to the cats foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the cat. All paperwork can be done online and adoption fees can be paid by Paypal. You can pick your kitty up "curb side". Cats can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR cats receive the following medical care prior to adoption:

Initial vet visit
Spay or neuter (if cat is 6 months or older)
Rabies vaccination (if cat is 6 months or older)
Distemper vaccination
SNAP testing for FIV, Leukemia and heart worm
Broad spectrum dewormers
Monthly flea/tick preventative
Ear mite preventative
The above is standard for ALL cats in our care. But many cats we rescue also require some additional TLC prior to adoption, such as antibiotics, eye ointments, wound care, fungal treatment, x-rays, or various surgeries.  We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.
