Sweet Melody has an amazing personality! She is super affectionate and loving and a definite lap cat! Melody is a gorgeous calico who found herself in a North Carolina shelter after her owner passed away. She arrived to us extremely matted and with a bad case of ear mites. It was clear she was extremely uncomfortable, it looked like she couldn't stand up straight or lay down comfortably because of the mats pulling on her sensitive skin. We got her ears all taken care of, and our friends at K9 Couture Pet Grooming donated their time to groom Melody and get rid of all those painful mats. Boy oh boy - Melody's personality truly came to life after her grooming! All of a sudden she was walking around with her head held high, and just wanting to be pet and loved all the time! And did we mention she smells amazing now?! She may look a little bit funny being shaved down with her "Lion cut" but we think she looks adorable and she clearly feels like a million bucks! She will need an adopter who will brush her regularly to avoid this happening again. Melody will run to greet you at the door, she will meow in the sweetest away, and she LOVES her canned food. She will follow you around head butting you and asking for some pets, and as soon as you sit down she will curl up in your lap. This 8 year old gal gets along well with everyone and will make an amazing companion! Make sure to check out her video and other pictures showcasing her new hairdo!

*Please note - due to COVID-19, we will not be able to do on-site meet and greets. Adoptive families can speak to the cats foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the cat. All paperwork can be done online and adoption fees can be paid by Paypal. You can pick your kitty up "curb side". Cats can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR cats receive the following medical care prior to adoption: 

Initial vet visit 
Spay or neuter (if cat is 6 months or older)
Rabies vaccination (if cat is 6 months or older)
Distemper vaccination
SNAP testing for FIV, Leukemia and heart worm
Broad spectrum dewormers 
Monthly flea/tick preventative 
Ear mite preventative 
The above is standard for ALL cats in our care. But many cats we rescue also require some additional TLC prior to adoption, such as antibiotics, eye ointments, wound care, fungal treatment, x-rays, or various surgeries.  We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.
