 Toad is a survivor!!!

This exceptionally sweet and funny kitten has a story to tell! He and his sister, Toadette, were diagnosed with FIP back in September. FIP occurs when the feline coronavirus (not COVID) mutates. Most cats have had feline coronavirus but the vast majority never develop FIP. Until recently, FIP was 100% fatal, but now there is a wonderful treatment that provides a CURE for this otherwise devastating disease! Toad and Toadette underwent 3 months of daily injections and monthly bloodwork, and the transformation has been astounding! Before treatment, Toad had a massively distended stomach full of fluid and a fever. He had what’s called “Wet FIP”. Within 2 weeks, he dropped 4 inches around his belly, going from a giant goat-like stomach to a slender healthy looking kitten tummy (see before and after pictures below). His response to the treatment was fantastic with no side effects. He was such a trooper with the medicine- he wouldn’t even flinch, he would just excitedly chow down on his canned food! He finished his treatment back in November and has been in the 3 month observation period. His bloodwork has consistently come back perfectly, and in about two weeks he and his sister will be officially considered cured!!!

Toad has PERSONALITY-PLUS! He is absolutely LOVING life! He has such a funny quirky personality, and he is guaranteed to keep you laughing. He loves to play and explore. He loves other cats and dogs, and this happy-go-lucky boy does not have a mean bone in his body. He is a very gentle cat who gets along great with children too, even screaming toddlers sprinting around the house do not phase him! He loves to eat eat eat, even weird things that cats don’t normally like- such as lettuce and fruit! We are telling you, he is a very silly kitten who is truly one of a kind!

We are so proud of Toad for facing everything with a warrior spirit and a sense of humor. Toad is finally ready for a home of his very own!

Toad no longer has FIP, and FIP is not contagious anyway. In clinical studies, FIP survivors go on to live normal healthy lives.

Toad is neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FIV/Felv, is up to date on shots, and litter box trained!

*Please note - due to COVID-19, we will not be able to do on-site meet and greets. Potential adopters can speak to the cats foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the cat. You can pick your kitty up "curb side". Cats can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR cats receive the following medical care prior to adoption:

Initial vet visit
Spay or neuter (if cat is 6 months or older)
Rabies vaccination (if cat is 6 months or older)
Distemper vaccination
SNAP testing for FIV, Leukemia and heart worm
Broad spectrum dewormers
Monthly flea/tick preventative
Ear mite preventative
The above is standard for ALL cats in our care. But many cats we rescue also require some additional TLC prior to adoption, such as antibiotics, eye ointments, wound care, fungal treatment, x-rays, or various surgeries.  We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.
