Avocado claims she's a kitten, but we have our doubts. She looks more like a cross between a bat and a werewolf, with a chubby avocado shaped body (hence the name). Her hair can't decide if it wants to be short or long - she has random sections of short hair and random poofs of long hair. Her ears are gigantic, and well, you've seen the pictures - she's 1.5 pounds of uniqueness! Avocado was rescued from a southern shelter with her littermates (Plum, Grape and Orange). The 4 of them love to run around and wrestle with each other and then snuggle in a big kitten pile for cat-naps throughout the day. They are extremely well socialized, outgoing and friendly. Avocado gets along great with everyone including kids and dogs! We think her breed is a Lykoi (but Petfinder does not have that on their breed options).
If you want a cat that will turn heads, Avocado is your girl!
This cat tested negative for FIV/Felv, is up to date on shots, and litter box trained!

This website is updated daily. If the animal you are interested in adopting is listed as "available for adoption", that means the animal is still in DPR's care.
*Please note - due to COVID-19, we will not be able to do on-site meet and greets. Potential adopters can speak to the cats foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the cat. You can pick your kitty up "curb side". Cats can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *
DPR cats receive the following medical care prior to adoption:
Initial vet visit
Spay or neuter (if cat is 6 months or older)
Rabies vaccination (if cat is 6 months or older)
Distemper vaccination
SNAP testing for FIV, Leukemia and heart worm
Broad spectrum dewormers
Monthly flea/tick preventative
Ear mite preventative
The above is standard for ALL cats in our care. But many cats we rescue also require some additional TLC prior to adoption, such as antibiotics, eye ointments, wound care, fungal treatment, x-rays, or various surgeries. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.
