Meet Maple! Everyone who meets Maple falls in love with her. She's a shelter favorite and a vet favorite! Maple found her way to DPR as a neglect case - she arrived extremely thin with a severe skin infection all over her body. The vet had never seen mange in a guinea pig that had gone untreated for so long. She was covered literally from nose to rump in huge, thick, painful scabs. Her ear was the worst, with the thickness of her ear being at least 10x what is normal. The vet didn't know if there was any tissue there that was even still alive. When you'd even lightly touch her ear poor Maple would scream in pain, it was heartbreaking. Most of her hair came off with these scabs. Week after week she went for her treatments and week after week she gained weight and healed. Through all of this though she was the absolute sweetest guinea pig you could imagine. She loves to be held and pet and seemed to know that we were all trying to help her. We are thrilled to report that she is finally healed and ready for her forever home! All of her hair grew back and to everyones surprise her ears completely healed as well! She is at a healthy weight now too. Her nails are still a bit gnarly looking, but the vet thinks that damage was done to the nail beds and the nails will probably not grow normally anymore. They don't seem to be painful for her thankfully.

Maple squeals with excitement when she sees us. She loves her hidey house and her chew toys. She is picky with her hay and will only eat Timothy Hay (not Orchard Grass). She loves her daily salad of fruits and veggies! This sweet girl has been through a lot, and she is looking for someone who will love and spoil her. <3

Guinea pigs have wonderful personalities- they are gentle and we have yet to come across any who bite, and they keep a daytime schedule! They form close bonds with their people, similar to cats and dogs. Did you know they are able to recognize people based on scent, sound and sight?! These sweet animals make wonderful pets!

This website is updated daily.  If the animal you are interested in adopting is listed as "available for adoption", that means the animal is still in DPR's care.

*Please note - we do not do on-site meet and greets. Potential adopters can speak to the guinea pig's foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the guinea pig. You can pick your guinea pig up "curb side". Guinea pigs can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR guinea pigs receive a vet check up prior to adoption!

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.
