Guinea Pig (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Young : : Small
Meet Budgie! This adorable little girl has been through so much and is just as sweet as can be. She was impounded at a shelter with 11 other guinea pigs where they had been living outside in terrible conditions. Her intake pictures show her barely looking like a guinea pig - she was soaking wet and so dirty. The shelter reached out to us for help with her and several of the other ones, and we took many into our program. Budgie was extremely malnourished, super skinny, and pregnant. The poor girl had a rough pregnancy and ended up needing a c-section. She was also spayed at this time - her incision was literally 2/3 the length of her body. She had such a difficult time recovering from the surgery - she stopped eating and went into GI Stasis and was seeing the vet every other day. We fed her Critical Care around the clock - every 3 hours for over 2 weeks! During all of this, she was just as sweet as can be. She'd sit in our lap and didn't struggle with all the medications or force feeding. After 2.5 grueling weeks, she FINALLY started eating on her own! It was a huge celebration. She got stronger every day, gained a nice amount of weight, and her incision healed beautifully! She certainly has a strong will to live, and we are so proud of her for how hard she fought. It's been a month or so since all that happened and she's been fabulous, she's ready to find her forever home! She is a young guinea pig, and we've had her for several months - being held and loved every single day, she is very comfortable being held and cuddled. She's a definite snuggle bug. She has very soft silky hair and enjoys being pet on the nose and the top of her head. She loves her veggies, especially Kale, bell peppers and tomatos (a cherry tomato was the very first thing she ate on her own after 2.5 weeks of being sick!) We know cherry tomatos will always remind us of Budgie! She has the cutest squeak when she hears the bag of veggies rustling! She is finally healthy and happy and ready for a home where she can be loved and spoiled. We absolutely adore this little girl, and we know you will too.
