Brooke's story:

9/27/13 UPDATE - Brooke has made a miraculous recovery!  We are no longer listing her as "Special Needs" because if you met her you would have no idea that anything had ever happened to her!  She runs around the house like a loon.  No limp at all.  She can jump on the couch and onto the bed, she acts like any other playful silly kitten.  She gets along great with all the other cats in the house.  She hasn't been around dogs very much, but I'm sure she'd be fine with a calm, cat friendly dog.  Brooke loves to follow us around, and when she's not playing she enjoys cuddling.  She'd make a wonderful addition to one very lucky family!

9/9/13 UPDATE - Brooke is fanstastic!!  She just went to the vet for her checkup, and we have great news - she has graduated from cage rest!  She is absolutely loving her new freedom and being able to roam the house with the rest of the kitties.  She gets along great with the other cats in the house.  Brooke has truly made a remarkable recovery - she is actually able to walk normally, with just the slightest limp that's only noticable if you are paying close attention.  Her entire back leg used to be numb and she'd drag it around behind her, but she has recovered quite a lot of nerve function in that leg and foot!  As the nerve function returns, she experiences some pain in her foot, so she has been licking it quite a bit.  We are trying to keep her from licking it raw, and it seems to be improving in the last few days.  She is able to run around and jump, and just act like a normal kitten.  We couldn't be happier!
We are now accepting adoption applications for our special little girl.  :)

8/7/13:  Sweet little Brooke is young kitten who was spotted by a DPR member dragging herself with her front legs along the side of a road after she had been hit by a car earlier that morning (7/2/13).  He immediately pulled over, wrapped her in a blanket and rushed her to the animal hospital.  She was in ICU for a week and we weren't sure if she was going to make it, but thanks to the devoted staff at West Chester Animal Hospital and Brooke's fighting spirit, she pulled through!  She has several broken bones in her pelvis, a fracture in her spine, sacroiliac luxation, and nerve damage to her right leg.  Basically, her pelvis area sustained a good deal of trauma and she has very limited use of her back right leg.  She is on "cage rest" for at least 10 weeks while her injuries heal.  Right now, she is able to sit, stand up and hobble back and forth from her bed to her litter box. Her vet is unsure how much mobility she will regain - it is still too soon to tell.  She probably will not be able to walk "normally" but we are hopeful that she will be able to move around pain-free.  Only time will tell, and we are cautiously optimistic.
In terms of Brooke's personality - she is the sweetest, most affectionate kitten we have ever met!  She loves to be pet and held and will happily sit on your lap cuddled up for hours!  Her favorite things are belly rubs and canned kitten food.  She has the most beautiful, soft, silky coat and a fantastic purr.  She enjoys playing with her little toys too, and she likes when the other cats sit next to her cage and keep her company.  She is a very happy kitten and you can tell she is just so thankful to be alive!
Stay tuned for updates on our special little girl!
