Rainbow Bridge

We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan, but
knowing it is greater than the pain ....

--- Irving Townsend ---

No wise man who ever lived could truly comfort the heart that has lost what it held most dear. Most people have experienced the loss of a loved one. So they try, each in their own way, to make you feel that they understand how sad you are.

The world understands less the pain of losing an animal. This is because many people have never felt for themselves the true love of an animal. So, you cannot really expect these people to realize that your love for a pet may be greater than your love for the dearest people in your life.

The bond is different and can never be put into words. It is a bond that only The Heart understands.
(Author Martin Scot Kosins from Maya's First Rose)

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me....

Shea
We lost one of our own today. Shea, originally Cubby passed May 26th. He was loved and cherished by his family and will be forever missed by them. DPR is grateful we picked them as his family. There could have not been any better.

Tina
10/13 - 1/2/14 We lost our little girl tonight. Our hearts are broken into thousands of pieces. The pain is devastating but we are thankful she was in our lives and loved by so very many. Thank you for all for your prayers and support. Tina left our world with everything a puppy could ever want - foster parents Rose Marie and Don who gave her love and attention 24/7 since the day she arrived into their care; the best medical care possible from Nonantum Farm Veternary Clinic´╗┐ and Veterinary Specialty Center - Dr. Art Jankowski and every vet tech that had her in their care. Thank you Tina for the endless smiles brought to everyone that met you and the love you generated into this world.

Jenna
Jenna - 2005-2013 Jenna was one of DPR's first rescues. She was just one of the special ones that are never far from your heart. We are so grateful for her mom Rhoda who gave Jenna everything we could have asked for of an adopter. Jenna was Rhoda's family; they were best friends. Our hearts are heavy but are thankful she was in our lives and will always bring a smile to our hearts. Jenna, thank you for all that you gave so many.

Annie
October 2012 It is with broken hearts that we must tell you we lost Annie early this morning. While at Veterinary Specialty she had a seizure which caused cardiac arrest. We are thankful for all that took care of her both at Limestone and Veterinary Specialty, as well as everyone that supported her during her short stay with us. Though we will miss her terribly, we are grateful to have had her in our lives. Until we meet again at the bridge little girl . .

Nugget
