Rainbow Bridge

We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan, but
knowing it is greater than the pain ....

--- Irving Townsend ---

No wise man who ever lived could truly comfort the heart that has lost what it held most dear. Most people have experienced the loss of a loved one. So they try, each in their own way, to make you feel that they understand how sad you are.

The world understands less the pain of losing an animal. This is because many people have never felt for themselves the true love of an animal. So, you cannot really expect these people to realize that your love for a pet may be greater than your love for the dearest people in your life.

The bond is different and can never be put into words. It is a bond that only The Heart understands.
(Author Martin Scot Kosins from Maya's First Rose)

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me....

Matilda after Rescue
On June 11th our sweet girl Matilda passed onto the Rainbow Bridge. She came to us only five short months earlier from a shelter where she was slowly dying from neglect, cold floors, poor health and lack of love. She was saved by two people that God must have sent directly to her - Jenna and Bruce. They drove three hours from upstate NY to come pick up Tilly, took her home and gave her the best five months of her life. Tilly lived like a princess with her own coats to keep her warm, the best food and lots and lots of love. Jenna and Bruce and DPR are heartbroken over the loss of Tilly but so grateful that we were given the gift of this girl for the short period she spent with us. Until we see you again Tilly. . .

Matilda Before Rescue

Mindy
Mindy was down in a rural VA county shelter. Patti, a foster with DPR had contacted them to say we would pull and transport her up to us on 6/25th. Mindy was posted on our site and on Monday, 6/13/05 a wonderful family stepped up to adopt Mindy. Patti called the shelter Tuesday morning and found out they put Mindy down. "Mindy, you were loved and because you came into our lives we have learned new lessons that will save many just like you. No more fear for you little, shy girl. Rest easy. What Mindy has taught us: 1. Tell everyone your intentions so if one person falls through there is someone else with the knowledge. 2. Check, than double check than triple 3.

Muddy
Muddy 11/ 05 to 06/09 Muddy was the best dog in the world! He will be missed forever by his family! Thank you again for letting us adopt him!!! Such joy and now, such sadness. The Galvin Family
